February is the month of L O V E and Island Spa & Sauna is THE place to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year! If you’re celebrating with your boo, bestie, mama, or even just want to spoil yourself (because duh, you deserve it) you will LOVE Island Spa & Sauna in Edison, NJ! I just recently went for “Galentine’s Day” with one of my bestie’s, Pam, and WOW….. what an experience. First off, this spa isn’t like your “typical” spa, it’s truly an experience and somewhere you can spend all day!
Island Spa & Sauna is a 30,000 square foot modernized Korean day spa that focuses on mind, body, and soul. The very unique thing about them is that they have different saunas made from earthy materials. A few of the saunas available are clay, salt rock, charcoal, and even ice! When you first walk into the spa you will check-in with the front desk; here they give you your locker key & spa outfit. From there, before you enter the spa, you have to put your shoes into a locker. This is Korean tradition to be barefoot. The floors are heated though, don’t worry! If you don’t like being barefoot you can wear your socks.
Once you ditch your shoes you head to the locker room/bathhouse to change. Island Spa & Sauna is very strict on gender specific facilities, so the men’s and women’s are completely separated. They even have separate men & women “resting” rooms where you can nap if you want. No camera’s / phone usage is allowed in the locker room & pools due to privacy of all guests. Side note, the bathhouse area (different pools and hot tubs for cold & hot) is completely nude. This is a traditional Korean bathhouse experience, and optional. I will admit that I felt a little weird at first, but you are with women only and everyone else is nude too, so you get over it quick! Again, the bathhouse is optional but included in your admission to the spa. The rest of the spa + saunas everyone is dressed in the outfit provided at check-in.
Again, no pictures are allowed in the bathhouse area but I took this from Island Spa & Sauna’s website to show y’all what it is! It’s very relaxing back there with waterfalls in the pools & hot tubs.
The main area of the spa is amazing! They call the saunas “islands” and you can come and go into any of the saunas as you please. There are also couches in a lounge area, massage chairs, sleeping rooms, a juice bar, media room, and restaurant. Admission to the spa gets you access to all of this, and you can stay all day, literally! The doors to the spa open at 8am, and don’t close until midnight. BUT, if you want to try something different or go to the spa when most people don’t, Island Spa & Sauna offers overnight stays on Fridays + Saturdays for only $10 extra dollars! How cool is that?Oh, and there is complimentary wifi so you can get work done if needed.
Pam & I both scheduled extra spa services, but had some time to kill before our appointments. We decided to get a smoothie at the juice bar, and it was delicious! One cool thing about the spa is your key for the locker is also a bracelet, and the bracelet scans as your “money” during your stay. When you checkout you just pay the balance of whatever you scanned during your visit! So easy.
Pam got a 60 minute Swedish massage (which she said was the best massage she’s ever gotten!) an I did the Aromatic Sugar Scrub & rose petal bath… ya’ll amazing. It’s considered a “VIP treatment” at the spa, but dang, it was nice! Checkout all the extra spa services Island Spa and Sauna offers here, and below is a picture of the Valentine’s Day specials they are having! The body scrub was a really cool experience and something new for me. 10/1o recommend for you to try it when you visit Island Spa and Sauna!
This was my first time having a rose petal bath, an I’m obsessed! Something about rose petals in your bath, turning the water light pink, felt magical. Lol, I loved it! There are jacuzzi jets in your tub, the lights are off with candles lit, and light music playing. Ultimate relaxation!
After our services we into all the saunas to try them out! The saunas available are Charcoal Island, Clay Island, Ice Island, Salt Island, Treasure Island, and Forest Island. Each one is very unique and has an explanation of the health benefits on a plaque outside. I really enjoyed trying all the different saunas, each had something special about it.
We finished up our day at Island Spa and Sauna with a delicious lunch at the spa’s resturant. I had miso soup and sushi, and Pam had a fried rice and veggie meal. Both were so good, and the perfect way to end our spa day!
Overall, we had an amazing time at Island Spa & Sauna! I will be going back soon, I loved it that much!
