It’s hard to believe that I’m writing about my daughter’s first birthday. This year FLEW by, wow!! I’m honestly blown away by how quickly time passes when you become a mom. Time is a thief, that’s for sure!! If you want to read why I didn’t want to plan Sterling’s birthday party and procrastinated for so long, click here. November 7th, 2016 changed my life for the better. I became Sterling’s mama and started this motherhood journey fully. We often refer to Sterling’s birth as “the best day ever” so we were stoked to be able to incorporate that into her birthday!! We got this amazing banner from Tender Love CardStock, and customized it to be blush pink! View the banner here! The owner, Trina, does amazing work and is super sweet!
I went with a simple Pink & Gold “theme” for her birthday party because truthfully, it’s easy!! You can find just about anything in some tone of pink or gold. I also got inspiration from Sterling’s pink tutu dress while online shopping one day!! You can view it here, it’s listed in multiple colors. If we’re being honest, I bought the short-sleeved version too because I couldn’t resist, ha! I’m glad I bought both, because we ended up using the short-sleeved dress for her birthday party, and paired it with a little floral jacket! I couldn’t find the exact jacket she has on, but this one is very similar and really cute!! (we own this one too, lol) Then I used the long-sleeved version for her birthday photo shoot!
Sterling’s shoes are these Suede Gray Moccasins I love them because they’re perfect for everyday use too!! Now that we’ve got the outfit out-of-the-way, let’s get into the actual party!!! We decided on a casual afternoon party at my In-Laws house, on Saturday the 4th! (My original due date, fun fact!) My mom flew into town from Florida to celebrate with us, and it was a great day! We set up the dining room with presents and dessert, and the kitchen + outside for food and mingling.
Ryan’s cousin, Nicci, did the desserts which were SO good! We did a mix of chocolate & vanilla cupcakes, Oreo brownie cupcakes (with an Oreo inside, crazy good!) and S’mores brownie cupcakes! I’m literally drooling all over again writing this, ha! She did my baby shower desserts too, it’s awesome having a baker in the family!! The cupcake toppers were a mix of gold “ONE’s” from Shiny Soirée and blush pink hearts from Tender Love CardStock- Use code LIFEASLEAH to save 20% at TLCS

(If you want to laugh, I realized the next day that one cupcake was missing a topper, thanks to Sterling, lol! My OCD hates this picture but the cupcakes look so good ha)
The cupcake toppers were the perfect addition to the desserts!! I love the glitter on both of them!
Also on this table, we had Sterling’s time “capsule” box that I personalized!! I wanted to have something for her to open when she’s older, with little trinkets and whatnot. I had my Polaroid camera on the table ready for use (I have this one ) My mom took a bunch of candid shots that we put into Sterling’s box 🙂
I got these really cute photo props from Big Dot of Happiness, which is an online party supplier! They have something for every occasion! This is the birthday party pack we have, the “Fun to be One” photo props!
These doubled as table decorations with cute “YAY” napkins I found at Marshalls! I always find goodies in the checkout line, anyone else? They know how to suck you in! ha!
Speaking of desserts, Sterling’s birthday cake topper was pink & gold, and perfect!! We ordered it from Avalon Sunshine! Erica, the owner, is very fast and sweet! I absolutely adore the personalized topper and kept it in Sterling’s keepsake box. You can use the code STERLING20 for 20% off your order between now and December 15th at Avalon Sunshine’s website – here
I bought that adorable flower crown HERE
I wish I had taken more pictures during her actual party but I was trying to be in the moment, ya know? Especially with us getting in a car accident the day before her party, I was really focused on Sterling and what she needed from me. (I’m still traumatized from our accident BTW, but I’ll write about that later) I wanted to celebrate my baby turning one, and being present with our family. With that being said, I’m bummed we don’t have more pictures of her birthday party!!! We ordered pizzas, subs, and had homemade ziti! Sterling LOVES pizza crust so it was a must for her day!
I got this really cute picture of Sterling and my mom, and with her and Ryan’s dad!!
Sterling was NOT feelin’ pictures the day of her birthday party if you can’t tell from her face in every picture ha-ha! Even when cranky though she’s still beautiful!! We got this family shot of us which I love even though Sterling isn’t looking.
We had a great, intimate, celebration of our girl!! She didn’t care about the cupcake we gave her AT ALL, which is why I don’t even have pictures of her eating it because she didn’t lol. We sang the happy birthday song to her, but I’ll spare you my bad singing in the video. 😉 The next day my mom and I set up our DIY photo shoot for Sterling’s smash cake! (She also didn’t eat that cake, ha) This was my favorite because she looked SO cute, and really liked the setup!!!
All in all, we had an AWESOME time with our one-year-old!! Now excuse me while I go cry…
* Stay tuned for my next blog post about how we made the DIY photo shoot!! I’ll be giving you my tips & tricks + sharing all of Sterling’s adorable pics 🙂
